Guess That Character Blogfest

It’s time for ‘Guess That Character Blogfest’ sponsored by Jen @ Unedited!  Below is a snippet taken from my character (Sage Reynolds from wip ‘FOSSEGRIM’) ‘s point of view.  The challenge is to try and guess what Sage looks like based on his voice alone!  Good luck everyone and I can’t wait to check out your characters!
*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *
When I turn towards the beach, Kelly and Sheila are standing in the shallow waves.  They wave and signal for us to come in.  I tap Aiden on the shoulder.  “Looks like the princesses await their knights in shining armor.”
“Pfft.”  Aiden rolls his eyes.  “I swear to God if Sheila doesn’t put out soon, I’m gonna have to shave my head and wear an orange robe.”
“Nice…  Very chivalrous,” I laugh as we make our way towards them.
“ ‘Chivalrous’?  Dude, you’ve got to stop spending so much time with Kelly,” Aiden shakes his head.
Kelly wades toward me before I get to the beach and throws her arms around my neck.
“You didn’t have to go after them like that.”  Smooth caramel wisps of hair are flattened around her face by the wind as she looks up at me with big scolding green eyes.  I push the soft locks back and smile down at her.
“The guy grabbed your ass while you were buying a milk shake.  That’s inexcusable.”  My temper flares and my eyes search the beach.  “He better hope I never see him around here again.”
Kelly tightens her grip, bringing my attention back to her.  “I shouldn’t have even told you what happened.” She shakes her head but then smiles and leans up on her tip toes to lay a quick kiss on my mouth.  “But thank you for defending my honor.”
I laugh.  Kelly’s always saying old fashioned stuff like that.  She’s way into Shakespeare and poetry and medieval tales.  I used to think it was kind of weird when we were just friends but now that we’ve been together for a year, it’s become just another reason I love her.
I grab her chin and steal another kiss before hanging one arm lazily around her shoulder and leaving the water.  “That’s what knights are for, princess.”
She yanks on my arm and giggles.  I think she secretly likes when I play into her day time fairy tales.  Her pace slows as we reach dry land. “I gotta head home.  We’re going to my aunt Maggie’s for dinner.  My parents said you could come, if you want…” She looks up at me from the corner of her eye.
I shake my head, my gut twisting at the invitation.  Kelly’s parents hate me. Actually, come to think of it, most parents hate me.  Maybe it’s my longstanding reputation as a trouble maker.  Or maybe it’s my family. Or lack thereof.
Pretty much everyone in town knows that the McKenna’s are my foster parents.  Which isn’t a big deal, I suppose.  But when I arrived here in the third grade, I somehow managed to set fire to the classroom (magnifying glass over the garbage bin- It was science, man) and break Sarah Kane’s nose (misguided throw during baseball.  She should have ducked!) all in the same year.  From then on, I was known as that ‘troubled foster kid’ the McKenna’s had decided to keep around.

Okay, so here's what I'm seeing: Not tall, but taller than Kelly, tanned skin. Brown hair, curling slightly, maybe, highlighted by the sun, with that kind of unusual beauty you get when a tomboy kid learns how to look pretty and enjoy it. Eyes with color that contrasts with her face - like a really deep brown or sharp green, or even pale blue, just something that stands out. Am I completely wrong? Probably. :)
I really liked the snippet though - I can never write in present tense, I'm so impressed that you did it so well! :D Seriously great scene!

I see a nice young man. Good looking, gentle, but a bit of a rebel with a reputation (unwarranted) but a nice all round nice guy at heart but one who isn't afraid to fight for his lady love and be chivalrous too
:-) Awwwww!

Take care
x

I see an inteligent and sensible young man, dark hair. He's trying to make it right but sometimes its hard.

Ooh - I like this guy! I'm going to say he has wavy, longish brown hair and brown eyes. He's pretty tall, with a slender but not wimpy build. And he's really hot. :)

Amie McCracken said...

A somewhat skinny build that he's attempting to grow into. With a slight slouch because of the weight on his shoulders. Brown wavy hair that doesn't fall into his eyes, an attempt to make people respect him again. And muscles that look misplaced because of his skinny-ness.

Hi,

Lovely scene, and I'm guessing:

Big well-muscled lad, average brooding looks, tanned, shoulder length blond hair, brown eyes, soft voice, caring nature but leads the pack in honourable deeds, plus he's team-sport player of some sorts.

best

Okay, here's my best guess: brown, messy hair (styled that way), tall, muscular, with green eyes.

This was a nice little snippet! Shame on that one boy, though! :)

hmmmmm. Such a tease for describing HER but leaving him a mystery...thought I'd have it easy there for a bit.

I'd say he's slightly taller than average, solidly built, but not intimidating. He's got a strong sense of right and wrong which makes up for what he lacks size-wise. Brown hair, and light brown eyes. Hair is a little longer, bangs falling in face. Hmmm...jeans and tennis shoes kinda guy

Lindsay said...

Hmmm. I see him as tall, with messy brown hair, and mayve green eyes. He's not too bothered about looking perfect, especially since everyone sees him as a bad boy. I sense that he's street-wise and smarter than he makes out.

I'm not happy that I don't get to read the rest though...lol.

I see the actor who recently was in the Percy Jackson movie. The mannerisms more than the physical characteristics remind me of him.

Unknown said...

Yay!!! I'm so happy you joined in on the fun! I can't believe this awesome turn-out and with working a full day today I have no idea how I'm going to get around to all these! BUT I WILL!

My Guess: Messy brown hair, green eyes, nice build, handsome and he knows it. Jeans and t-shirt kind of guy (my favorite kind!)

Great piece!!! Can't wait for tomorrow!

I keep thinking this guy has some serious abs...definitely a looker, brown hair, dreamy, dark eyes.

He perhaps has a scar somewhere on his left cheekbone courtesy earlier (mis) adventures.

Okay, I'm not gonna lie -- the name threw me off! When I read Sage, I immediately thought of a tall, beautiful brunette...woman. I was confused as I read on (naturally) and had to reread to get a better idea of what this guy looks like.

I'm gonna stick with brown hair. Green eyes framed by thick lashes. He's tall and well-built. More intelligent than people give him credit for.

Lenny Lee said...

hi miss katie! for me sage is tall and he got good muscles but not like one of those body bilders. hes got wavy black hair slicked back and hes got tanned skin. hes got green eyes. hes wearing a black nike bathing suit and no shirt and he barefoot. hes got a hairy chest. ha ha.
...smiles from lenny

LOL, this dude reminds me of the boy who keeps being asked to play on the school football team, but just simly won't out of spite. He's a blond young John Travolta, I reckon. :o)

A young Goldie Hawn!!!!! :o)

Guess my character correctly and win a prize!

Carolyn V. said...

Tall, dark hair, green eyes. I hope I'm right (fingers crossed).

vic caswell said...

I'm seeing Mark Salling for some reason... the character seems able to hold his own (kick major bottom) and the strong silent type.

Meredith said...

Ok, I want to meet this kid! He sounds like such a great MC, and I love his voice! I'm seeing a tall guy, longish dark hair, green eyes. Lanky with lean muscles, tanned skin. Very cute.

Terry Stonecrop said...

Brown hair, streaked blond from the sun. Tallish, tanned, muscular but not large. Hazel eyes. A gentle heart in spite of his quick temper. Protective of his girlfriend.

Good show!

Sage Ravenwood said...

Sandy blonde hair - mid length and wavy. Green eyes with flecks of amber and an easy smile. He has broad shoulders. Love the name Sage for a guy. It's actually my middle name. (Hugs)Indigo

Matthew MacNish said...

Ooh, I love this scene from WOC. Um I picture a broad chested young man with long flowing hair, blonde or dark I can't decide. I see wide facial features with a hint of marine life to them.

He is at ease in the water and well used to the beach, his complexion blasted by sun and sand.

Christina Lee said...

oooh intrigue! Okay Sage makes me immediately think green (my favorite color), so green eyes and sandy brown, messy hair. Medium build and height. ;--)

um...my word ver. is GARTH--so should I change my answer to Garth Brooks?

Jemi Fraser said...

Great scene :)

Tall (she had to reach up on her toes), tough, athletic yet lanky build. Dark hair, eyes. Scruffy hair :)

Dianne K. Salerni said...

Sage has green eyes -- just the color of the sage plant. His hair is a light brown, the kind that looks almost blond when the light shines on it. He keeps his hair short even though the style is for long, because he's not the kind of guy who fusses with his hair.

Sage isn't classically handsome, but he grows on you. He has a medium build, and he's damn strong.

Hanna C. Howard said...

I love the name Sage for a boy. And I see him as being a little bit Peter-Pan-ish... which means I'd love him. Wiry but strong, tallish--but not gigantic. Tousled, gold-and-brown hair. Impish smile. Bright green eyes. Swarthy skin. Probably some scars on his elbows and knees.

In short, a major cutie... but not the kind with too much ego. If he's cocky, it's in a feisty way.

Love it!

LTM said...

OK, so he's taller than her, so I'm guessing he's tall, skinny, dark hair (the troublemaker). I haven't decided on the eyes... I think they should be something like hazel or green...

Hmmm... Now me wants to meet this Sage... :D LOL!

Great writing, K~ love this blogfest.

I see a tall, dark-haired boy with a slim/muscular physique and a shaggy or messy hairstyle. I don't know his eye color, but I want it to be light and striking to contrast with his hair!

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Taller than she obviously. Strong, muscular.

His eyes are intelligent, discerning, and fun. He is handsome (not surprised at all that a pretty girl loves him.)

His chin is strong, perhaps even square. His eyes show a temper just under the surface but an adaptability that easily plays into his love's fantasies.

I would say his hair is blonde, his eyes blue. How did I do?

Diane J. said...

I see a teen of about 17, he is built like a wide receiver, but doesn't play football. He has dark brown hair that is a smidge (just a smidge) too long. Brown eyes and a killer smile. Maybe even a small divet on one corner of his chin when he flashes a big smile. Very toned and very tan.

Rose Cooper said...

Okay, I see him as tall and lanky. A bit awkward yet confident. Definitely tan with dark eyes and dirty blonde hair that's cut pretty short and worn into a "spiky" type look.

Can't wait for the reveal!

Are YOU ready for Mayhem?

I see a 6ft guy with a head of short brown hair, muscles, and a good tan. For the most part he's got a gentle face, but he is capable of looking tough.

Unknown said...

Ha, I like him!

Sage probably looks like trouble. Messy dark blond hair, roguish smile, laughing green eyes. He's tan from hanging out on the beach. Tall and muscular, like a woman's fantasy knight. He's probably 16 or 17.

Nicole Murray said...

Kind of pretty for a guy. Bright eyes and unruly hair. Smart and mature for his age. Knows he does not fit but has made the most of it.

A good guy with a bad rap.

Margo Berendsen said...

Yum - a chivalrous troubled foster kid who loves his Shakespeare and poetry loving girl.

I'm so seeing Orlando Bloom right now from Pirates of the Carribean. Except without the facial hair - rougish and chivalrous at the same time.

Brenda Drake said...

Okay, I'm totally thinking Dallas from the Outsiders--medium build but ripped, devil-may-care attitude, brown eyes, and messy hair in a good way. Very romantic with a sensitive side, though. Love him!

Great snippet! Can't wait till tomorrow. :D

BK Mattingly said...

Great excerpt! Fantastic! Umm, okay I see a guy who tends to mold into what other people see him as. So maybe slightly distressed jeans, devil may care hair that tends to do what it wants, I'm thinking darker brown with some lighter bits. I see his eyes as dark brown with some kind of untold secret within their depths. I could also see him like playing a guitar which sounds soooo random to me right now, but whatever I guess. I am definitely checking out what he looks like tomorrow!

Talei said...

Ooh I love this snippet! I'm see Sage as a tall, lanky but still athletic build, messy light brown hair with caramel streaks, come-hither-me hazel eyes and a mischievous smile. Intelligent young guy who read adults better than they think, a charmer when he wants to be. Stands up for friends in need any time, day or night.

Hope to read some more of Sages story! ;))

Paigeewa said...

I see a stockily built guy, maybe around 5'7'', who isn't that bad of a guy, but has trouble trying to not live up to his "troubled" reputation. He's got dark hair, a narrow face, a pronounced nose, and blue eyes.

Basically, he's a bad boy hunk who's also really smart.

Renae said...

Oh, I like him and I am loving this scene!

I'm picturing sandy blode hair with tanned skin, dimples and bright blue eyes.

Can't wait for the reveal tomorrow!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Long hair and reserved.

Elizabeth Mueller said...

Again, your writing leaves me wanting more. You're so good!!! I love the voice, great job!
I see him as tall, dark and handsome--yes, cliche, but beauty is cliche, too!

He has black hair and hazel eyes and a bit o shadow across his face.
:)

kah said...

Oooh, I dunno but I like him. My best guess is kinda on the tall side, medium length hair, jock build, mysterious eyes, and a charming smile (but doesn't show it very often).

Unknown said...

Fun scene with lots of great voices!

I picture a teenage Christian Slater type guy, with dark hair and eyes, and a hard look that's softened completely when he smiles.

Can't wait to see him tomorrow!

Christine Danek said...

I love this! Great voice.

Brwon, messy hair. Hazel eyes with hint of green. Medium build. Sneaky/sexy smile.

Can't wait to meet him!

Unknown said...

Dirty blond hair that he keeps cut super close. His wardrobe consist of graphic t-shirts and jeans. His face is very boyish, he has two different color eyes which add to the mystique of his bad boy image. His slim body and lack of facial hair says that he is not yet a man.

Stephanie said...

I'm seeing a blond guy, gorgeous, blue eyes and dimple, sporty, muscular, chiseled features. His hair is a bit long on top, but he keeps it well maintained with product. But he's not a fru fru kind of guy. He wears khaki cargo shorts and a light blue button down shirt rolled at the sleeves. He's a trouble maker for sure, but a good guy. Can I admit I was totally picturing Zak Morris???

J.C. Martin @ Fighter Writer said...

I see a real sweet young man, always well-meaning but clumsy, still not quite past the gawky teenage phase. He is cute in his awkwardness, though: messy, curly mop of dark brown hair, decent build, could be even better with a bit of tone. Medium height, say 5'8-5'9", brown puppy eyes.
