I'm BACK, Baby!

So, today is the first time in a long time I’ve sat down in front of the computer to try and put together something coherent. My baby girl, Phoebe, was born February 27th, 2013 and just turned nine weeks old which means I finally have the ‘go ahead’ to start exercising and getting myself back into shape. Therefore I figured it would also be a good time to stretch back out the ole’ writing muscles and get blogging again.
The last 8 weeks have been FILLED with ups and downs so I thought I’d do a brief recap:

Week 1- Baby’s born! First thoughts- ‘Look what I DID!’ *looks around the room
frantically* Do you guys see this? I made this brand new little human practically all by myself AND it feels like my body just broke about a million rules of nature to squeeze the little sucker out! It’s a miracle! I am magical! I should have food and presents brought to me on golden platters and tribes of people should bow down and sing my praises! Or I should at least be given a medal by the mayor, or something. So what if hundreds of thousands of women do this every day!? I still deserve a damn medal!’

Week 2 – ‘Yeah,- still waiting on that medal’.  *Hmph*

Week 3- ‘Boy, this baby sleeps a lot!’. I mean, I practically have time to do whatever I want! Why did I think this was going to be so hard again?’

Week 4- ‘Boy, this baby cries a lot!  What’s wrong? You’re fed, burped, changed and in the loving embrace of your spectacular mother! Why do you hate me?’ *tears*

Week 5- ‘Boy, this baby sleeps great! I mean, she only wakes up once or twice a night. I’ve got this new baby thing totally licked!’

Week 6- ‘Oh my god, I’m never going to get a full night’s sleep again ever for the next seven years. What the hell was I thinking? Why do you HATE me? *tears*’

Week 7- ‘She SMILED! Oh my god, she totally loves me. I’ve got this new baby thing completely licked.’

Week 8- ‘Holy crap, this baby got heavy fast. What are we feeding you? My back is killing me. And now the doctor says I can work out on top of all this? Yay- *fake mini fist pump*.’ *Looks in mirror* ‘I don’t look that bad. But what the hell is going on with my thighs? I mean, I understood when I had that big baby belly to support that my upper legs had to kind of spread out to support the weight but it’s been TWO MONTHS now since the baby jumped ship. Shouldn’t they start, I don’t know, deflating on their own?’

Which brings me to the present- nine weeks later and slowly learning to balance baby care, body care and all the fun things in life in-between. You guys aren’t here to see it, but I just took a nice deep breath and got a little teary. I hadn’t realized just how much I’ve missed this part of my life.  The simple act of writing and sharing.

Well, that and the hormones have me tearing up pretty regularly over things like nutella commercials and realizing we're out of trash bags…But that doesn’t devalue just how much I’ve missed all of you, too!

It’s good to be back! Now, your turn! What have I missed? When you think back on the last 8 weeks what’s the first word/event that comes to mind for you?

We missed you, too. But it was worth it. She's gorgeous, Katie. You did an awesome thing there and you should be getting goodies brought to you on golden platters.

The one word to describe the last 8 weeks: CHANGE. In those weeks, my husband retired, we bought a house and we moved from Colorado to Missouri. Now we're almost settled in. (Still waiting on the last of the furniture to be delivered.) Not quite the feat of having a new baby, but still...

Yes, you do deserve a medal for carrying that thing for 9 months and pushing it out of your body. Oh and for caring for it for the next 18 years! Good work, you! *sends virtual gold star*

Congratulations on your darling little girl! She looks so sweet.

And yeah, you totally deserve a medal for giving birth. All mothers do, no question!

Welcome back! I used to say I'm having twins, one in each thigh.

It all evened out eventually. :)

Congrats Katie, she is so CUTE!!! Welcome back, you were missed.

I can especially appreciate this post because I'm finally about to do the mom thing myself- baby boy is due the first week of August. We're also moving from CT to GA so you can imagine the hormonal tears are flowing over here as well!

I missed you so much! Thank you for sharing your last nine weeks with us. So precious. Continue taking care of yourself, and don't come back full force too quickly. I know the urge to do so, but you'll be better off easing into it all. ((hugs))

She is gorgeous!

So glad you are back- Congratulations Katie! The baby is absolutely beautiful. I have to agree with you, I think all new moms deserve some sort of prize or present or something.

How are your other girls doing with the new addition to the family? Any resentment/jealousy or are they all acting like little protective mommas? I experienced both. My older daughter was all protective and the younger wanted nothing to do with the new baby. Thankfully, that stage passed quickly and now they are all best of friends.

Whjat an adorable smiling little person you made! And you do deserve a medal! Or at least a nice night out on the town -

Nice to see you back :)

Congrats, Katie!!!! And welcome back. Phoebe is one of my favorite names. How are your other children adjusting to the new baby?

In the last few weeks, I have gotten A LOT of rejections. Boooooo. Lots of requests and then rejections. Boooo. I nudged my R&R bc it has been 4 months and not a word. Le sigh. Working on a new WIP/project, just got to 21,000 words yay!!

Hope to see your smiling face around here more.
xoxo

When your comment popped up on my blog I wondered,"Could it be...is she back?" Then I ran right over here and sure enough, its true!

(((BEAR HUG))) Oops...squished the baby.

I'm so happy to see you back. You were really missed. Thanks for filling us in on the last four months! :)

Congratulations and it is great to see you back and writing.

I'd tell you what you missed, but where's the fun in that?

It's like missing an episode of the Simpsons, though: It all goes back to Point A the next week and it's like the previous week never happened...

Awww! Those are beautiful pictures. Congratulations. Those first several weeks are HARD! Even when they seem easy, they're hard because so much is changing. Great to see you in the blogosphere!

Nice to see your humor is still intact! Hormone swings will eventually go, and that's a lovely baby girl. Phoebe is a very nice name. With that smile, she will win hearts.

Mothers understand where you're at and that's why we have Mother's Day. They should spoil you then!

Thanks for the visit to my blog. I would sure like to see your local 700 yr old church. Any photos?

I've recently been thinking I might want another baby...thanks for the recap and reality check. Yes, babies are wonderful but they do require alot from us wonderful mothers!

I'd give you a medal...beautiful baby you got!

My event? Book deal!!! :)

Your baby is so beautiful. Welcome back and try not to overwork yourself. New mothers need lots of rest even though they rarely get the time.

LD Masterson said...

She's Beautiful. Of course, you deserve a medal. She'll make it for you one day in pre-school or kindergarden, and it will look more like a lopsided heart or a wilted flower, but you'll recognize it. It will say something like "I love you, Mommy."

Nice to have you back.

LOL! Hooray!!! Look at that PRECIOUS baby! She is so so CUTE! And look at that sweet smile. Awww... :o)

It's great to have you back! And to be back myself--I've been buried over here in revisions.

Here's to a productive summer! I need to get back to exercising, too. :P <3

Awww... CONGRATULATIONS!!!

And welcome back.

Let's see - baby, nursing, work, nursing, baby, work, baby, nursing, work... It kind of all rolls together in one continuous flow of life for me these days. :)

I'm lucky - my 4-month-old only wakes up once in the middle of the night, and it's not a wake-up so much as a wiggle to let me know she's looking for something to eat. Then she latches on and goes back to sleep, and so do I. Phew!

Try to get your rest. The newborn phase is all too fresh in my mind, so I totally empathize with you.

Well, I've been working on the most challenging editorial revisions ever with the shortest deadline. But I am happy to say, they are almost licked. In fact, last night I would have said the ms was finished a week early, but I'm glad I decided to sit on it until the due date.

Because today at work I thought of two things that needed changing. A word choice, and a tiny plot hole.

Both are fixed now, but who knows what will pop out of my subconscious at work tomorrow? Glad I have this extra week to let my brain simmer.

Glad to see you back in the blogosphere! I've missed you!

Congratulations! Enjoyed reading your humorous take on the first nine weeks - you could totally write a column for a parents' magazine!

And yes, it is an amazing thing making "practically on our own" another human being! :-)

Not that you need me or anybody else to tell you, but your daughter is absolutely gorgeous. Loved this post. You did a great job describing the roller coaster life and emotions involved with being a new mom. (Forgive me for laughing out loud.)

She is so precious!! Congrats! And welcome back!

Me, well, still looking for an agent. I did end up putting one of my books on Amazon. The Swimmer's Assistant. Still working on getting an agent though.

Congratulations, she's gorgeous!

Our twins are almost 5 months old and I think we went through exactly the range of feelings you've described.

We started sleep-training them at 6 weeks. Best decision we made. They now have a solid sleep routine that is rarely broken and have slept through the night since they were 10 weeks.

That made me smile. You've got to love the ups and downs of parenthood!

Gorgeous baby! When I think back to the last eight weeks the phrase 'the circle of life comes to mind. My great-granddaughter was born in March and eight days later my mother-in-law died, the day after her 96th birthday.
