How I Lost 6 Pounds on Vacation...

So, technically I’ve been back from our vacation for over a full week. But you know that old adage about needing a vacation to get over your vacation? Yeah, that’s pretty much where I’m at right now.

Pros:
Camping wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it might be. The tent was spacious and well-equipped. We had electricity and were able to rent a camping fridge, have a fan and outlets to charge cell phones or play music.

The lavatories were clean and well-functioning and only 30 seconds away from our tent site. The campground had an awesome pool, a reasonably-priced snack shack, grocery store and restaurant and it was only 2 minutes from a fantastic kid-friendly beach!

Cons:
Even though it was close by, I must have walked the equivalent of one-hundred miles to and from the lavatories. Yes. The kids made it their mission to need to pee at least once every hour of every day the entire time we were there. Not to mention frequent showers to remove chlorine or beach sand, and trips dedicated to washing dishes, of course.

Communal bathrooms and showers also, regretfully, permit you to know intimate details about your camp-mates hygiene. And it becomes completely normal for everyone to make some sort of announcement whenever they’re headed to the toilettes.  You know, just in case we began wondering where they went.

More Pros: The location was fantastic.

Only 10 minutes from the Port de Cavalaire where we went nearly every night for the best ice cream.

And had our Bastille Day activities like the kids’ lantern-march and fireworks.

The campground  was only 10 minutes from the fair grounds.

5 minutes from the medeival village of Ramatuelle.

And 10 minutes from the beautiful Mediterranean beach - ‘Gigaro’.

And an hour’s drive to ‘Marineland’- France’s version of Seaworld.

All of this activity, plus the frequent beach, pool, and bathroom trips kept me active pretty much non-stop for two weeks. And even if I was bordering on exhaustion as we packed up to go home, it was totally worth it!

Missed you all! How was your month of July? Any news to report? Have any of you ever had a vacation that was less-than-leisurely?

we just came back from a camping trip (only four days not two weeks!) and I definitely need a break. There is so much laundry to do, house cleaning, car cleaning. It's exhausting. Looks like you had a wonderful time and the pictures are gorgeous!

Outside of the community bathrooms, it sounds like a great time. I bet not having to drive somewhere every single day was great. Good to have you back, Katie!

I'm not keen on the communal bathrooms, but if one has kids, it's par for the course, isn't it? And I'd love all those various entertainments close by. I'm not one who just likes to sit on the beach. And, I'm not a big camper anymore, did it BK (before kids).

I admire your resilience and success with this trip, glad you enjoyed it! Nice to see you back.

Love the pictures. It sounds like a fun vacation. I admire you for going camping with a baby.

I've just had a super busy July running my daughter to work and swim related activities.

Sounds like fun! Yes, vacations can be exhausting! My sister just left and we're enjoying hanging out but missing cousins too!

Me and my son do a lot of camping when it turns much cooler (40-50F at night is ideal), and always in tents. Can't say that I ever lost weight camping though...I make a mean hotdog!

Welcome back!! :)

Welcome back! I adore camping and those photos are simply gorgeous.

Hm, July news: bought a house in the U.S. and moved into it.

Had a book release.

Baby girl is trying to stand and she's only 6 months old. HELP!

Exciting stuff. :)

Your photos are lovely. (And wow, your baby has gotten so big.) I'm glad you had a chance to get away, even if it wasn't necessarily restful.

I spent most of June and July sending my laptop back and forth for repairs. :( But it's finally working correctly. Yay.

So glad your trip was filled with so many things to keep you occupied.

I do understand what you mean about needing a vacation from your vacation. I enjoyed San Diego, CA with family, friends and some Comic-Con fun. Disneyland was part of things too, so I stayed much busier than I could ever have imagined.

Yes, I could do without the community bathrooms as well. The Sea there looks like it trumps any of the small negatives itself though--not counting all the other fun you all had.

Gorgeous pictures Katie! That baby is just too adorable.

Not sure I would be as forgiving as you are about the "communal bathroom" and sleeping in a tent. But bless your heart you look stunning in those pictures. Camping must agree with you. Hope the girls had a good time as well. Looks like it in the beach shot :)

If you had a fridge and a fan, you weren't really camping. LOL.

Wow! That looks like an amazing trip, though I know what you mean about needing some time to recover afterward. Camping is fun, but it can be exhausting, too.

I'm headed off to camp this weekend. Got to love the amount of packing that goes along with camping :/

Awwwww She's adorable!!!!

Camping never looks like that for us. My hubby and boys are camping this weekend. My daughter broke her leg biking, so we stayed home and had Chinese food. I think we got the better deal!
