Oh yes she did....

So. This is what querying agents has brought me to. I used to be a normal twenty seven year old married mother of three. But then I finished my first manuscript in January 2009 and it began. First drafts, second drafts, edits, writers' forums, critics groups, research, tips on querying, frequenting agent blogs like it's going out of style (which it isn't by the way). And now here I am. Blogging. God help us all.

When did I first realise I had become a creepy query girl? When I started dreaming about me and my first choice agents running happily hand and hand through a field of literary dreams come true. You other queriers out there- Don't deny it. You've all had the same dream.

The problem is querying agents is like being one of those little yappy circus dogs that are led through hoops and fire dressed in a clown suit and strung along by a big juicy dog bone.

Don't get me wrong. I am not one of those people who hound agents for feedback, reply after a rejection or send five messages a day on their blogs. My query letter isn't filled with gimmicks or a headline that makes it look like something its not. I'm just your normal run of the mill querier (with an extraordinary book ofcourse). But despite all of that, I FEEL like a creepy querier since I spend about forty percent of my time concentrating on writing and the querying process. So here I am. And here I shall remain. Until that fateful day when the best agent in the world picks me out of my creepy query status and upgrades me to his or her creepy client. And then maybe to creepy published writer, and creepy literary prize winner. Stranger things have happened.

hello there. I found you on the writers site link. I have two blogs recently started, not much activity yet: http://fiverabbitsinhackingjackets2.blogspot.com/
and: http://pollyj9.wordpress.com/
It was very interesting reading your comments about American agents, I'd never considered pitching outside the UK. I do believe the UK is also moving towards email submissions, the last two times I have sent here, have been by email.

Thanks Polly, I recently found a couple of UK agencies accepting email queries as well but they are few and far between. Hopefully they will jump on the green bagwagon because it would save us all a lot of time, trees, and energy:) What genre do you write?

I say Dream Big! Why not? I already know what I'm going to say on Oprah when I'm on her show because of my book....Sad, but fun :)

I agree. Keep the dream alive! Querying is such a pain in the ass- But blogging about it has given it a fun new twist and I love the group of people I've been introduced to since starting. Thanks for the comments!
