Catpoop in the Closet

I swear to God, if my cat doesn’t stop pooping under beds and in closets, I’m going to have to add ‘cruelty to animals’ in with my other Creepy Monday Misdemeanors.

Das right.  Creepy’s back to her normally scheduled posting.  Thank you guys so much for bearing with me this summer while I struggled to finish my work in progress before going back to my ‘real job’.  It’s been a crazy couple of months but things are finally starting to settle down.

Back to my cat.  Yeah. What is his deal?  I Googled ‘cats pooping in closet’ and it says to put cat food everywhere they’ve done their business in order to communicate that this is a ‘happy secure place and not somewhere for crapping at whim’.

I honestly don’t know what he found so offensive in our hallway closet to begin with.  Maybe the tacky Christmas decorations stored up for next year?

Anyways, back to writing- related topics:)-I’ve set a goal to have FOSSEGRIM query-ready by the end of October.   Elana Johnson’s article on ‘Editing Your MS in 30 Days’ is a wonderfull resource-  plus all the other tried and true advice I’ve accumulated in the last few months.

Therefore, my posts in the next few weeks will be devoted to revision (putting tips into actual practice) and killing time between revisions.  All you members of the ‘Revision Haters Club’ can be ready for some action!

Also, Matt Rush of the Quintessentially Questionable Query Experiment has agreed to help me out with my query letter  (Thanks Matt!)  and will have the first installation up  on his blog tomorrow.

Hello and ‘THANK YOU’ to all my new followers!  I’m sorry I haven’t been able to get around to see everyone in the last couple months but my blesence (blogging presence) should be kicked into gear now that the first draft of my wip is in revision and the French ‘rentrée des classes’ has settled down.

How was everyone’s weekend?

Pooping in the closet -- could be one of three things.
1) The litterbox is full OR he doesn't want to deficate with the other cats.

2) He doesn't feel good and doesn't want to go the extra distance for outside or box.

3) He feels left out and wants some more attention. (I'd go with this one.)

I'm also in the middle of revisions and of course finishing but I hit a snag with the ending so I figure if I revise the first act while my brain stews maybe I'll accomplish two things. Maybe.

Okay so I laughed out loud when I saw you pic. I'm more of a dog person myself. We have three cats so I can feel your pain! Sounds like your writing is going well! Congrats! Can't wait to read your query on Matt's blog.

That pic is hilarious!

Maybe he's acting out? I have dogs, so cats are alien territory for me. Good luck with both the kitty surprises AND your WIP...can't wait to hear about both.

I don't have any cats, but I think he's tryin to ell you he doesn't like your new schedule. He's looking for more attention, the naughty kitty.

Good luck in solving the closet issue. If mine started that, they'd be living outside full-time.

Piedmont Writer's advice is spot on. Cat exhibit that kind of behavior when they are ill, when their litter needs to be cleaned more regularly/thoroughly, or when they are dissatisfied with their environment (lack of attention/moving furniture/introduction of a new pet/etc).

That's so funny butI shouldn't laugh at your situation. I have no idea why a cat would poop in the closet but I hope you find a good solution soon.

Awwwww your kitty sounds so adorable!! Awwww!! :-)

And thank you so much for that link to Elana Johnson's article - very useful!

Good luck with your revisions!! Take care

Hmm, I'd say he's wanting some attention by pooping everywhere.

Oh, and yay to being back on track. Can't wait to check out your query on Matt's blog. :)

This is why we own fish, they can't poop in closets--even if they really, really want to.

Ah cat poop - see this is why I don't have a cat. I have a dog and he sleeps in his own house. LOL

Sometimes revisions can last forever unless we make a deadline and just attack it! Good luck with revisions - I'm tackling that too so will look forward to your posts!

Revisions can take forever (I'm a prime example here), but somehow they don't seem as bad as querying. At least no one can reject you while you're revising. Right? :D

Um...if I tried putting food in my bathrooms for my kids, I'd never see them again. Huh?? What a fab idea!! LOL.

I'm a dog girl so I can't help with the cat problem but I'd more than happy to help with MS or query letter stuff :-)

That's hilarious.

So glad to have you back to your regularly scheduled programing ;)

Weekend was phenomenal!! Went to Word Weavers South Florida and got a healthy dose of support and encouragement from my fellow writers :)

Gotta love the power of critique groups.

You know what's funny? When I started my blog I hated queries with a white hot passion. Now I kind of like them. Not so much working on my own, but helping others. I mean I'm not the best at it, not with people like Elana out there, but I am decent and awesome peeps like Elana usually stop by my blog to help anyway. So we rock!

Also our cat pees everywhere. Often on the bed too. Luckily it's usually on mom's side.

Maybe your cat's trying to tell you something? I don't know what, but cats are really smart:) Or maybe this one was just dropped on his head as a kitteh:)

Glad your back!

A lot of people already said it, but sick, don't like the litterbox anymore(sometimes, if they aren't washed out really good often enough((who really does that often)) then the smell leaches into the plastic. Might try and get a new box?) He could also be stressed over something. There is a plug in that I'm told works for stress you can get (better deal) on DrsFostersandSmith.com. Or you leaving is causing him to freak out and the closet smells like you and he wants to get your attention?

hope that helps!

yay! So excited about your WIP status--I'll run over to Matt's and check out your query.

As for kitty problems... hmmm. That's odd. Mine's pretty good about sticking to her litter box. Is it possible it got full one day and she went on a protest? Maybe she's sick or stressed--? Good luck w/that. Errant pets can be a real nuisance. ;p <3

I hate!Hate! Kitty poop problems. I hope she learns soon!

I think I'm one of those in the I hate revisions. I'm trying to love it, really I am, but I don't. =p

Personally, I'm not a pet person, and this is just one part of it. however, Husband does have a dog that resides at our house and I maintain a cordial relationship with her. so long as she does not use my house as her bathroom. Good luck with the cat. And good luck with revisions!

Cats with potty problems are the worst! Ugh!

Good luck with Query wars! :-)

I'm sorry about your cat, but boy, was that a hilarious post title. I hope you're able to sort things out with him.

Congrats on getting ready to begin revisions, and setting a goal. Here hoping it all goes well!

I have two cat litter boxes for Gypsy, and it seems to have solved any cat poop problem for me.

Maybe he's just a two bathroom kind of cat?

Have a great week and good luck with your query letter. Roland

Katie, you crack me up!

And REPORTING IN FOR REVISION HATERS CLUB! I am SO THERE! I will have to check out Elana's post, as my own process seems topsy turvy at best, and I have 4 more I'd really like to get revised--at least one more before NaNoWriMo starts. *shifty* (can you tell I like to write better than I like to revise?)

It is possibly the christmas decorations. My cat also expresses her dislike for them.... though she just shreds them with her teeth and claws of steel.

I know with my cat I have to clean her litter every 23 (yes, she is THAT specific) hours or she yowls insanely. Maybe you just have to try and make sure its really fresh all the time?

Glad to have you back to regular schedule posting. Can't wait for your revision tips (from a fellow hater of revisions - the idea of them anyway. I'm almost happy I'm not done)

Unfortunately, I know how you feel. One of our cats is going to live out the rest of his life in our bathroom b/c he poops on the carpet downstairs. We have a large master bath, and it's the only room with a linoleum floor just in case (the rest are tile or hardwood), although he uses his litter box when he's in there! We let him out into our room at night, but when we leave for work, it's back to the bathroom for him!

I feel your cat pain.
Mine don't poop in the closet, but they leave dead animals in random places on my deck and yard, most are headless, and once I actually stepped on one, which was disgusting, the way it squished between my toes.
I am still traumatized.
Anyways, good luck with your query!! This has me strangely excited. I'm kind of a query voyeur. I like to watch other people do it-- query, I mean.
That's kind of weird. Sorry.

Howdy. My cat was pooping everywhere and we found out she had diabetes. High blood sugar caused a urinary tract infection. Painful peeing made her associate the litter box with pain.

But my cat is old and yours is pretty young. But if all else fails, you could have your kitty's blood sugar checked or just pee checked for an infection.

Good luck.

I'll have to check out Matthew's blog tomorrow then!

Probably not nearly as funny to you as it is to me, but ha, and *snort*.

I've been away most of the summer as well. Fun to be back.

I guess this is one of the days I can be happy my husband is allergic to cats? I do miss having one though.

Thanks for the revision link! I have so much revision left to do, I don't think it'll ever be done. But that's okay, I'll get through it! :)
And glad you're back. :)

I have two cats one is a siamese and one is a calico, they were in competition when I brought them in the house together for the first time. My siamese would poop and pee everywhere!!! Even on top of our bedspread, we finally picked up something call "No Mark" and it changed our lives forever! I took awhile to spray and get started but now whenever we move, change something, or our calico deciding she wanted attention.

Thanks for the other links and I hope you have success with the pooping cat!

It's the total opposite in my house. My dog is the one who should live outside, he is always having an accident. I love cats :)

Deidra said...

Maybe it's not a hatred of the closet, but a love of it that gives your cat the desire to deposit a little bit of himself there? Just think of it as the highest cat compliment imaginable. :)

When I was a kid we found a little baby kitty abaondoned and all by itself. Mommy must have been killed. So we took it in. Problem was, it must have been "touched." It pooped everywhere. Under my bed and then covered it with comic books (which would have been worth a small fortune today). In the closet. In a shoe. The thing was a real poop machine and seemed to take pleasure in finding creative places to lay its masterpieces.

It also attacked people and scratched the snot out of them. Kinda funny now tht I look back at it.
