Stop the Ride!

Well, Christmas was certainly a whirlwind of activity from which I have not yet recovered.  But I have to admit, I had a great holiday and I hope all of you had one too!

Unfortunately blogging time will be sparse for the next few days.  I’m home for the next week with three dahling children expecting me at their beck and call.  I’ve had to remind them on a few occasions that ‘I am not your slave.  I am your mother.’  (though often times I do wonder if there’s much of a difference.)

In the meantime, I’m definitely getting ‘the itch’ to start something new.  I find I am the happiest, most easy going and optimistic person when I’m in the middle of a writing project.  I dunno what it is- the process of creating, the magic of seeing things come to life or the renewed feeling of hope.  In any case, I’m honestly at my very best when I have a writing project going on the side so I think it’s time I sit down and do a proper outline on something I’ve had in my head for awhile.

How was everyone else’s holiday?  Did you take my advice and get fat’n happy?  Does anyone else feel like they’re only living a half life when they aren’t writing something?

I have a whole post about fat n happy coming up this week. (that's all I'm saying).

I don't know if I'm any easier to be around when I'm writing. Think it might have the opposite effect on me. The pull to write turns me into a crazy woman until I can get fingers on the keyboard again.

Fat and happy suits me to a tee. Anyway, I am anxious to get back to my WIP after so much family sharing time. Hope they don't feel put out if I do so.

Fat and happy sounds about right. And yes, non-writing time is sort of surreal, if that makes any sense - but then, holidays are usually a bit weird (in a good way), too.

Ooh - fat and happy - check, check!
:-)

At the moment I'm concentrating on reading all my "to be read" books pile - so that's making me most happy too!!

Enjoy your holidays!!

Take care

Yep, I've got fat and happy covered. I agree, I'm at my best when writing. I took a couple weeks off while working on Christmas gifts and I'm definately ready to get back.

Good luck with the kiddos!

I definitely agree with you about being most happy when in the midst of a new writing project. Sadly, the one I started this fall has not engaged me the way I hoped it would. I don't know if it's because I haven't had time to concentrate on it, or if it's just not going to come together at all.

I have all this week off, and I want to spend some time getting to know the story better. You know, maybe fool around, fall in love with it a little bit ...

I hope I don't end up having to dump it!

Christmas was awesome :) I ate, drank and was indeed merry, hehe. Now that normal life has to resume I'm a little sad though :P

Yes, fat and happy.

And I can't wait for Monster Baby to go back to school. I can't get ANYTHING done.

And I had a great Christmas.

I totally agree with you, there's this romance idea itching in my head, asking to be written!
Glad to know you had a great xmas! =D

I'm glad Christmas is over, too. Loved it and had a great time, but so happy to finally sit on my rear...well for a few hours anyway.

Have a wonderful New Year!

Life has been complete chaos here - it's been wonderful but writing has definitely been on the back burner. Hopefully I'll get on track soon - but it won't be this week! :)

OH the itch. If the itch was an STD(okay, a different one anyway)I would be the biggest slut on the planet. LOVE the itch.

Glad you had a great weekend! And have fun with the wee ones!

Writing a first draft turns me into a complete hermit. The rest of the world could fall down around me and I wouldn't notice...bliss for me, but not for the family ;) Revising? Well, that gives me a sense of purpose anyway.

Must write. No matter what or my Husband gets really quiet...afraid he'll provoke an attack or something. Glad you had a good holiday. Have a Happy New Year!

I gained 10 pounds and I'm feeling pretty good, so task accomplished!

Good luck on the new project! I love a good new project. =D

We don't really do anything different for these holidays.
We just stay home and cook yummy food (why bother with any other kind? ), quiet and happy being (antisocial?) together.
Gambate on your new creative endeavor!

Always enjoy Christmas. Haven't written in many months - maybe I need to start again.

Weird - I commented on this yesterday but it didn't save. What I said was: Yes, I have the itch big time, and not even for the current WIP. I'm not stuck on that WIP, I just have an out-of-genre book niggling in the back of my head. Sigh.

Hope you get time to scratch that itch, Creepy.

I agree with you that sometimes the best place to be mentally is in the midst of writing out a great story. Hope your holidays slow down and you have a wonderful New Year!

Well, it's most pleasing to know that you had a great holiday.
I understand what you mean about being happiest when on a writing project.
In my case, my writing is just a bit of amateur, yet therapeutically inspiring, positive resource. Writing has been a great comfort as I challenge my mental illness.
My Christmas was a quiet time, spent mostly alone. Yet, thanks to the wonderful blogging community, I have felt like I'm truly part of something special. I am most grateful. I'm happy but I guess I could of gotten a little bit fatter:-)
Have a peaceful day and happy writing.
With respect and kind wishes, Gary.

I know, I've had to remind my children of that fact myself quite a few times.
Also, my children seem to hate each other all of a sudden. All I hear is screaming, crying and tattling. It just makes work seem really appealing, even if it does involve boiling lances.

Glad you had a good christmas!
Sometimes I like the idea of writing more than the actual writing. Sometimes I sort of start to hate it.

Anyways, I think you should write about your move to France. I know you say it's been done, but you have such a great voice.
Well, whatever you write I'm sure it will be good! :D

I had a lovely holiday, and am glad to hear you did as well!

Here's hoping whatever project you choose to begin next keeps you inspired :-)

Oh, yes, the world looks much brighter in the midst of a project--it must be all the idea generating that gets the mind going.

Happy writing! :D

Katie-you are definitely NOT alone on that 'happiest creating' thing. I've finally learned to tolerate editing, but the writing is the best. And I totally get the cabin fever with demanding childings... ACK! Mine apparently have broken legs and are blind so they need me to do everything for them... *rolls eyes*

Hope you are having a nice time with the dahlings! And completely know what you mean about living a half life without writing something - exactly that. But I have a few projects up my sleeve for 2011 - hooray for new things!
