In support of the newly released ‘Like Mandarin’- Kristan Hubbard’s debut novel, I’m spilling my guts about those embarrassing I-wanna-be-like-you chick crushes I had in my younger years.
I would have given anything to be like :
Cher from ‘Clueless’
I didn’t have to practice it in the mirror. The tips of my thumbs would touch with pointers extended as I snobily drawled ‘Whateeever !’. I’m not ashamed I went out and bought the mock catholic skirts, knee socks and mary janes. I even wanted to dye my hair blond but my mother wouldn’t let me. So I secretly bought bottles of ‘Sun-In’ and sprayed the shit out of those floppy locks whenever I thought I could get away with it. Cher had it all- she was beautiful, rich, popular and had boys falling over themselves. I watched ‘Clueless’ on a loop throughout eighth grade.
I would have given anything to talk like : Buffy
‘Wow, That was boring.’ -nuff said.
I could never quite manage: ‘The Rachel’

You're the second one to mention Cher - I've never head of the show! And for me, it's definitely my sister when I was growing up. Now I'm happy to be me.
Well your hair looks amazing now. And it's funny, my GF in high school loved clueless. We watched it all the time. It's hilarious.
Love Cher! I would have totally tried to be her in High School, snobbery included :)
Yay Cher. And I so wanted to be as kick-ass like Buffy. She always had the best witty comebacks. :)
I wanted to be like Jon Bon Jovi. Okay, I got the hair part down at least. Beyond that, I can't remember. Maybe one of the 90210 girls. Either Kelly or Andrea. :D
My girl crush is most definitely Salma Hayek. The curvacious figure, the flowing black hair, the sexy Spanish accent... I am so lame in comparison.
I am so dating myself but I wanted to be like Susan Dey on The Partridge Family. C'mon singing with David Cassidy, being gor-ge-ous, with bell-bottoms and flowers everywhere! Groovy man!
I had no idea it was the Like Mandarin blogfest today. How cool is that, though? I am loving the support the book is getting. So. Cher from Clueless, huh???
I totally see why you wanted to be like Cher. My friends and I watched that one more times then I'd care to admit! And the Rachel doo! Gosh, jennifer anniston has GORGEOUS hair.
Those are great picks! I would have loved to be like Cher. I would have been so cool. =)
UGh! I wanted Cher's closet!! And to kick butt like Buffy and make out with a smokin' hot bad boy like Spike! Rawr. Great post!!
I so wanted to be like Cher too!
*whispers* I haven't watched Buffy. Yet. I plan on it. Hope we can still be friends!
Awesome post! Cher from Clueless is obviously popular. And who doesn't want to be Rachel?? I DO.
OK. So honestly, my idols were Grace Kelly or Ingrid Bergman, or maybe Audrey Hepburn. I guess I'm lame for not watching enough tv. Cher is pretty cool, though - she's timeless like my favs.
My girlfriend was just watching Clueless on HBO or something the other day. I didn't realize Paul Rudd was in that movie, so I actually began watching myself until I had the strong desire to start using pear glaze soap and strawberry lip gloss. That's when I went back to my manly copy of ELLE.
Awwww but none of these characters are as Creepy as you!! And I mean that in the best possible sense!!! yay!! Take care
x
Yeah, I envied Rachel's hair as well. I was a little too young to ask my hair stylist for it (like I had one) (I was shy), but I dreamed of that pretty, pretty hair. :D
Great choices - I still kinda want to be Rachel - or at least have her hair! :)
How about Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles or Winona Ryder in Mermaids? They were dorky, embarrassing things dogged their every step, but they still got the hunky guy in the end. Hey wait. Now that I think about it, it was the same hunky guy. Weird.
