Maybe it’s because the focus on blogging as a form of self-promotion has waned amidst publishing professionals. Or maybe it’s because newer, faster, easier forms of networking, like facebook and twitter, have gained in popularity.
In any case, the blogging community as a whole has felt the transition. We’re posting less often. Visiting and commenting less. Participating in less contests, bloghops, blogfests, and blog tours.
Do I miss the good ole’ days when I would hit up over fifty blogs a day? Keep my finger on the pulse of all that was happening in the writer/agent/publishing community through blogs and shared articles alone? Look forward to my favorite bloggers’ daily posts?
Of course!
Those early months of blogging- when we were all building up our following and getting to know new and interesting people was a total blast!
But I don’t think the kind of time and work it takes to keep that up is feasible for most people on a long-term basis. Especially if you’re a writer. So, like many of you, I’ve cut back. But that doesn’t mean I don’t miss it. Or that I don’t miss certain blogs that have had to cut back as well.
Today, as part of the Oh, How I Miss You Blogfest hosted by Alex, Andrew and Matt, I’m highlighting (some of) the blogs and bloggers I miss the most, whether from their having to cut back or from my own lapse in bloggy participation.
Three bloggers whose postings I miss:
And three bloggers who are still fighting the good fight but who I’ve been missing due to my own lack of bloggy participation.*blushes*
Know that you are loved and missed I will try to pop in more often, my friends!
Do you ever feel like you're missing out on some great blogs because of time constraints and cut-backs? Let them know you still think about them! You can check out the rest of today's participants here.

Man! I haven't been to some of these blogs in ages! Great choices, Katie. I may have mentioned you a little bit in my post today. :)
Blogging long term definitely takes stamina. Why the fading? I think more people got serious about their writing and moving forward. But I also think writers saw that blogging a lot or even having a lot of followers didn't always get you the agent or the book deal. Even though i cut back to once a week, maybe twice, I still read a lot of the blogs I follow and sometimes comment.
I wouldn't want to lose touch.
Nice to meet you Kate. Visiting from the Miss You Blogfest!
I miss Colene as well. And happy to see Vicki has rejoined us.
It is difficult to visit so many. Trust me...
Thanks for participating in our blogfest!
Oh man, I totally forgot Colene's been missing, and now that you mention it, I really miss her. And Melissa - who I see on FB. Her blog was awesome.
Wow, this fest really gets one thinking! Times are changing, but I still love the blogger world~
Fun post to read and you reminded me of a few more I need to go visit :D
I do think artists in all forms have to hone their craft and time is crucial... Well said...
Oh my gosh! I miss Colene, too. And you've chosen other wonderful bloggers I miss, also. Geesh, I hadn't realized their posts were few and far between.
I've been missing a lot of blogs too. I guess there's a lot of burn out--it takes a ton of energy to blog consistently. And that on top of family, work, other writing, etc., it's hard.
There simply isn't enough time to visit all of the great bloggers out there and actually write.
I feel like I'm missing out on a crap load of blogs because of time constraint and too many blogs to read.
I've been skimming through my Blogger list a lot lately. It breaks my heart to skip posts from the entertaining and fun people I follow, but if I read them all, I would never get any writing done at all!
I at least make sure to skim through the "before the jump" blurbs on Blogger, though, even if I don't have time to keep up with everyone. It makes me sad, but until a day includes an extra four hours, there's no way I can possibly keep up. :(
Awe! I know what you mean, totally. Been missing so many people for a while now, but it's kind of an ease on my conscience to know that it's a blog wide phenomenon going on.
What a sweet thing, to have me up there! I miss you too, girl! Twitter has been a fabulous way of keeping in touch with the people I've found from blogging (quickly), so you're right, that has kinda taken the place for now.
Hoping you're well, and your writing is going well!
Awe geez! Now I just saw the other comments... My heart melted into a big goo puddle... Never realized I'd actually be be missed! That's nutty! Daw... Thank you for this, CQG. <3
Hi Katie .. what a great list of bloggers and they're around .. and shed their tear of happiness ..
.. then I note the connection maintained between Tweeters and FBers ... I'll have to check that out next year ...
Cheers - Hilary
Hey - I miss Melissa too! And there are so many good blogs, and I feel like I have so little time to follow each person in the way that they deserve . . .
Hey Katie, you would certainly be missed if you decided to stop blogging. As I mentioned at another blogger's spot, your posts tend to be very thoughtful and thought-provoking so I wouldn't want that to go away
I know exactly what you're saying because I'm in that same boat. I used to be gung-ho about amassing followers and visiting blogs. Then the steam ran out. It's very difficult to keep up with intense blogging and immediate everyday life. The latter has be taking precedent for me lately.

Tossing It Out
I'm now a "Like Minded Stalker!" Enjoyed your post a lot.
Blogging can take up so much time but I do emjoy connecting with people.
Oh man, its so hard to keep up with all the blogs we love. THis is a good opportunity to remind myself that I love your blog!
Oh, gosh! I totally miss your blog! So glad this was put together, cause now I can be reminded of all the great places and people I like to visit. Good to see you, Katie! :)
i'm on a little break right now-until jan.
Great choices.
Great choices. A couple I already follow and the rest I will now go check out.
I've had afew blogging breaks recently, just lil ones, but I do miss it when I'm gone :)
I also mentioned you in my post Katie! I lost track of you over the summer and haven't stopped by here frequently enough. I love your humor in your posts. Happy Friday!
Fifty blogs in one day? Wow! I'm lucky if I can read and comment on that many in one week. There are several bloggers I miss, though. I still have them on my reader, even though a lot of them haven't posted for months. I can't help wondering if they'll come back; it's always hard to say.
It is hard to get around to all the blogs that I want to, but you said it well...There are so many places to be, so much to do and so little time. This is a great chance to say hi and I appreciate you, and I do even though I a bad at showing it :) We do our best, right? I will have to check out some of your choices. Have a great week-end!
Nice to meet you through the blog fest:) Thanks for sharing the links. I found some interesting blogs to start reading!
Jen is an awesome choice!
I like how you posted pictures of the bloggers' home pages. Nice to "meet" you through the blog fest!
I know all six of the bloggers you mentioned--love the people you picked.
Great choices! Jen is an awesome choice! :)
ALL THE TIME...
My first year of blogging I spent hours a day. Chatting up a storm with new friends and savoring every minute.
Funny you mentioned Colene... she was one of my first blogger pals along with Abby Minard. Haven't seen them in months. So sad.
I am lucky now to do one blogfest/hop a month and if I'm lucky ten to twenty blogs a day.
I like to write real comments so it takes time.
Thankfully we are all in the same boat and understand. But we all feel sad too.
Wise words. It is nearly impossible to keep up a strenuous blog pace, but like you, I feel so at home and love the support and friendship, I don't plan to go anywhere anytime soon! Glad you're sticking around too!
Yes, I always feel like I am missing out! I am making an effort to be back in action though!
Awesome choices, Katie. I'm just shocked that I haven't met any of them. Off to find out more. Thanks, eh!
I don't know most of your choices but they sound great. And yes, I feel like I miss a lot as my own blog gets busier and with all the blogs I follow.
Oh thank you! I thought it was just me that was finding it hard to keep up the blogging and the commenting. I really miss it but it just takes so long. This blogfest is giving me a well-needed kick up the arse!
Awwwww, I miss you, too!! So very much! :( :( :( Le sigh...college came and stole my life. (They say that's when you *live*...I say it's the time of your life when you find your living-ness replaced with the poor substitute of homework.) But I'll be back after finals! :) :) :)
Hi, Katie! Enjoyed how you set up your post. I'm currently on a break from posting on my blogs, but trying to visit the blogs I'm following, when I get the chance.
I came over from the blogfest and your blog looks like so much fun! Blogging IS time-consuming and it's been an evolving process for me- but there's nothing like the writing community for support and encouragement.
Aw Thanks Katie. You're too sweet.
Remember the good old days? Now it's catch as catch can on the blogs. But they always say it's cyclical so maybe blogging will come back.
Happy Thanksgiving!
