Creepy's Monday Misdemeanor

Kick-ass characters kicking ass in a kickity ass setting?  What more could you ask for?

Oh, admit it- When George and Fred pulled out their flaming fireworks display during the O.W.L. exams- blew up the wall of overbearing rules, and knocked around the terrible Umbridge in their farewell shebang- you were pumped up right alongside them, weren’t you?

Or how about when the group of mismatched misfits gave Principle Vernon the run around in The Breakfast Club?

Sometimes the stakes are high enough that a little ‘disturbing of the peace’ is in order- The kind of scene that makes you wanna stomp your feet, throw a fist in the air and start chanting Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You.’

As some of you know, I usually meet my ends in a more roundabout way with small affirmations of who I am and what I stand for. (See my silent protestation of the word ‘sneaked’)

OK, fine!  I might have participated in my high school walkout to protest against….shit. I don’t remember.

And I might have gotten kicked out of a movie theater when I was fourteen. Well- kicked out by association. The rowdy boys we went with wouldn’t shut their traps and the usher asked our whole row to leave.  In retrospect, what was he thinking?  Who lets a group of preteens loose in the streets of downtown Bordumsville?  It wasn’t pretty.  In the end I succeeded in talking the usher into letting my friend and I back into the building so that when our parents showed up, they wouldn’t suspect that their post pubescent daughters were out wandering the streets with a group of crazed delinquents.

A week later, however my friend’s mother told her we’d been spotted outside the local Mcdonalds that night and didn't hesitate to call my parents as well.  BAM!!!- Grounded.  Two weeks.  Ugh.  No good deed goes unpunished.

Anyways-
What's your favorite ‘we will rock you’ scene in books or movies?

I have loads! But the one that comes to mind is Stand By Me when Kiefer Sutherland finally gets what he deserves!!

In 90210 - Beverly Hills, in the third season, Brandon leads a walk out protest for Donna.

Not that I ever watched the show (and absolutely not all seven seasons) so I wouldn't know. Uh-uh.

There have been so many, I can't think of just one! I hate when that happens. But I do remember my reaction whenever it happens. I usually start giggling and kicking my feet (I'm typically lying on my couch when I read). My husband thinks I'm going crazy until I explain to him what's going on.

It's early, I can't think of a blessed thing in book, movie, or my personal history banks that might apply.

The scenes in The Crow where everyone gets theirs.

Off the top of my head I've got a scene from The Outsiders. Ooh, and the Breakfast Club is a good one. Loved that movie.

I would say in Ferris Bueller's Day off and Back to the Future. :)

I've got nothing right now - but I loved your examples!

My favorite kick ass scene is in the Cantina in Star Wars where Han Solo blows away that alien man-what was his name, Guido?- and then throws money on the table and says, "Sorry about the mess."

hahaha! Something like that happened to me when I was a kid. I went to a girl friend's b'day party at a computer games hall thingy. But for some reason my mum didn't believe I went there. She grounded me to a MONTH. I couldn't prove it and she refused to call my friend's mother, who was a bit of a drunk, no wonder she didn't believe where I was (I was only 12).

Anyway, a month later (yeah after I spent the whole time being grounded), I found a couple of game tickets in my pockets of what I was wearing that day and was able to proove I wasn't lying. Haha, I felt so triumphant :o)

Okay, this one's kind of silly, but I'm rather fond of the scene in Shrek 2 where Shrek and the gang break back into the castle to the tune of "Holding out for a Hero."

Ah, Shrek 2 -- the last good Shrek movie.

I love Good Will Hunting when they boys are in the bar and he stands up to the college grads who think they're so smart but really all they do is quote other people!

Mind kung-fu!

HA! We walked out in high school one day, too. OH the drams! No idea why we did it (probably didn't know then, either). lol. Great post!!

Your Fred and George example is one of my all-time favorites. Oh, how I cheered when they made their Hogwarts grand finale of mischief - it was beyond awesome!!! :-)

LOVE The Breakfast Club. There are a couple references to it in the book I just finished.

I like the scene in Stand By Me like English Writer said too.

This may be a different thing entirely but it is disobedience of a teenageular nature... when the students stand up on their desks at the end of Dead Poets Society...I lose it every freaking time.

You are such a delinquent! LOL!! Good for you! :-)

And nothing like a bad character in films or books to get me going!

The Outsiders by SE Hinton - full of kick ass we will rock you moments! :-)

I can't think...I really can't. I mean, I'm thinking of something that I loved, but I've read so many books lately that...ooooh, I got it. The Last Time I Was Me, by Cathy Lamb. Awesome book, and that girl comes back with a WHAM! I loved it. I should read that book again.

I loved the two you named at the beginning! Those are two of my favorites, but I would also say a kick ass character would have to be... Ferris Bueller! He was a kick ass character with all the shenanigans he pulled!!

You nailed one of them with the Weasley Brothers--that ROCKED! (and Umbridge SO deserved it!) I'm not really a rules girl (you might have noticed)and I LOVE these anti-establishment statements. It's funny though, the things that come to mind are things like Revenge of the Nerds where you get EVERYBODY admitting at the end that they've felt like an outcast... I wish my specific memory was better... I can half envision a dozen scenes and the names are not coming to me at all (Does Napolean Dynamite have such a moment?)

But I love thinking about it in the context of a rallying/tension breaker in a book. Rowling is a genius, isn't she?

One of my favorite books and movies is Dangerous Liaisons. Glenn Close is a manipulate $*#&@ and thinks she's triumphant. I love the scene at the end when she arrives at the opera and everyone starts staring at her and booing. She's been made and her life is ruined just like she ruined so many others. Love it.
Not a fun scene, though. I also cast my vote for Ferris Beuller.

I have to agree with you on the George and Fred! That was just awesome. =)

Ooh, there's so many, but the one that comes to mind riGHt now is the scene from Corky Romano, when his brothers come in to save him :)

I'm a bit of an 80s girl at heart, so the movies I'm thinking include Outsiders, Breakfast Club, Dirty Dancing and the Lost Boys. Which makes me want to go and watch them!

Very interesting insights on not only movies and books, but also in your own life. It was hilarious to hear about how you got grounded.

As for movies/books when I heard Queen's "We Will Rock You"...Hmm...Dang it! I can't think of a blasted moment when, but I'm sure there were plenty. If any come to mind, you will be the first to know! :)

Write on and rock on!

Oh gosh, I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I LOVE those kinds of scenes. They just make you feel good.

I also wanted to drop by to say thank you so much for voting for my novel in the Fresh Blood contest. I'm grateful for your support. THANK YOU!!

What about Footloose? Remember when Ren McCormick stands up at the town council meeting and quotes from the bible "A time to laugh and a time to weep. A time to mourn and there IS a time to dance."

And the preacher can't argue? Awesome moment.

Great question!
