H - Happy Days (and magical powers of coolness)

Of course, this show not only made the 1950’s and 60’s look like a blast, it also gave us one of the most popular and well-known characters of all time and had us wondering if coolness really could give a person magical powers?

Twas the case of Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, after all – better known as ‘The Fonz’.

Fonzie’s ‘coolness’ gave him abnormal physical strength, intense sexual appeal and strange power over any electrical or motor-run objects.

All it took was a snap of his fingers and a multitude of pretty girls would coming running to his side.  (I can’t help but wonder if any Fonzie wanna-be’s  of the 70’s tried this move and how many were disappointed with the results.)

The palm of his hand could cause any jukebox to start inexplicably playing the song of his choice.

And just when you thought the Fonz was down for the count, he’d do something incredible like break down bathroom doors or perform a complicated array of Russian dance moves.

But what exactly made the Fonz so cool?

I’m thinking it’s kind of a chicken before the egg debate.

Since all of you are cool (you’re here aren’t you? J) tell me:  If you could have a magic power brought on by ‘coolness’ what would it be?

Me?  I think it’d be fun if people gave me free coffee wherever I went- just for being cool.

I'd never get a bad hair day. Ever. And neither would anyone within a 3 mile radius of me! LOL!

ps. I am so a Richie or better still a Potsie to the Fonz! LOL!

Take care

I'd snap my fingers and compel everyone to tell the truth. LOL. Maybe that is not such a good idea.

I'd be able to edit my own MS and see all of its problems.

Whoever I was writing with could drive however fast they anted and I could always talk my way out of a ticket.

Or maybe I'd start a fashion trend centering on whatever item I just bought at the shopping center?

Great choice for the letter H. Too bad I wrote on 'I' today!!! lol

Hmmm...what special coolness do I want. So many to choose from. Fast drafting with no editing needed would be really cool!

The Fonz was a terrific character I think because he not only had that magical quality but he could be tender hearted too. Very well developed. Such memories.

Agents and publishers would beat down my door.

How about every single thing that I wrote would become super successful? Now that would be just fantastic! Great post.

I went to school with many Fonz like characters. They were very cool.

Surely they aren't magical powers per se. They're just extreme versions of that idea that everything goes better for the cool guy. Things just work turn out well. Perhaps the strange thing is that they don't work so well for everyone else. It begs the question of what we're doing wrong.

oooh, if I could be magical through cool, I would convince people to do what I wanted them to do, like vampire glamour.

I'm a fan of Happy Days! Great show and I loved the spinoff LaVerne and Shirley. My magic power would be invisiblity. There are so many times I would like to have been a "fly on the wall"...

Happy Days confused me as a kid; it was a show filmed in the '70s about the '50s and I watched it in the '80s. Maybe that's how kids now feel about That 70s Show.

I just recently learned Henry Winkler (who played the Fonz) has co-authored kid's books for years! I don't remember the name of the series, but it's been out awhile. He sounds like one of the most genuinely nice guys in entertainment based on his interviews.

Watched that show all the time as a teen.
I'd be so cool that all other cars got out of my way on the road.

Oh, boy, you stepped in it now. My power would be for everyone I pass to suddenly be naked. *nods*

*giggles*

That fonz thing flew pretty well in elementary school. No clue if it worked with the older kids, but there was a boy named Russell...

Free beer?

I have to admit that the Fonz - I mean, Henry Winkler - still looks pretty good these days. I'd like to have the power to silence people, where I'd just raise my hand or something and then they'd stop being loud. I'd use that power on my neighbors and the people who blast their music on their cell phones without using headphones.

I agree with faraway eyes--agents and editors would know down my door. That would be very cool.

His coolness even let him jump over a shark on a surfboard. In retrospect, probably not the best idea.

I really liked that show. Great choice for H. And I love your magical power. As a coffee addict, I want to have it too.

That show was awesome. A definite classic.

Since you already grabbed the coffee power, which I would secretly covet, I think my power would be to get ticktes to whatever thing I wanted. Whether it was a rock concert, sporting event, zoo, amusement park...anything and always. How cool would that be?!?

When your cool...who needs special powers? I mean...the "Fonz" is a classic example of something going viral before such a thing existed! :)

The Fonz was so cool because he was so self-confident without being arrogant. I'd love that super power :)

My special power would be for queues at the supermarket checkout to disperse at my arrival so I never had to wait again.
