For one of the romantic scenes in my YA contemporary romance, I needed to find a song that the love interest could play for my MC. Craig was a jock with a secret hankering for the classical guitar. I needed something sexy- preferably with a bit of Italian (his roots) and after enough digging, I found ‘Quando Quando Quando’.
Of course, it helped that the version I listened to was sung by Michael Bublé=instantly sexy. But after writing the scene, the stupid song got STUCK in my head for the remainder of the manuscript and whenever I hear it, I can only think of Craig and Avery, that magical night when he played his way into her heart…amongst other things.
Here’s the link if you want to give it a listen. I’m at the point where I think it has magical powers of seduction.
Has your manuscript ever led you to music, or a song you wouldn’t have normally listened to?

ooo... interesting. I love finding new ways to find new music! :D I have crazy-wild musical taste, so that's helpful to me, actually. But I only made my first soundtrack on that historical book. It was b/c I was working on 3 things, and the music helped me keep my moods straight.
good stuff! :o) <3
Hadn't heard that one before. Sounds like the perfect match for your scene!
The version I remember is one sung by Englebert Humperdinck!! Ahem!! LOL!!!!!
But this is sizzling sexy!!!! Yikes!
Take care

I recently needed to write a scene that took place in an Irish pub, and so I spent the afternoon listening to the Dropkick Murphys. Not usually my style, but it was perfect mood music while I wrote that scene.
Oh fun! Yes, I do occasionally listen to music I would normally potentialy turn off when I'm writing. My last WIP was very dark, edgy and violent LOL and I found myself listening to some pretty angry music prior to writing. It worked though:)
most of the time I don't listen to music when I'm writing because it distracts me; I either want to sing or hum along, or get up and dance!
Nope. But I did find an Avril Lavigne song that fit my last wip (I don't do the song list thing), and every time I hear it, I think about the book (and play scenes from it in my head). :D
Yes, I can relate to this. While I was writing one ms, the song I'm Ready to Love You Again by the Manhattans seemed to fit the plot and I kept hearing it.
Oh my, Michael Buble, from my home town of Vancouver. I shall be in Vancouver in 3 weeks time. He'd better not ask me for my autograph:)
Have fun with the 'alphabet challenge.'
Gosh, even Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star did a posting about it all.
So, what 'R' you doing next? :)
What a great song to write a romantic scene. Not too distracting and easy to listen to. I'm sure it's an awesome scene! :)
What a great song. I have to admit I don't relate music to writing. I'd be terrible at scoring a movie.
I always use music when I am writing. It helps put me in a place and keep me there.
Funny, I've never felt compelled to look for something I wasn't already familiar with (though there have been cases when a song strongly influenced a storyline), but I'm glad you found what you were looking for!
Oh, interesting! I do listen to various music when writing and I do recall a scene when a particular song plays.
OMG i LOVE this song. It was actually the first one my boyfriend and I ever sang together. Love that it fits in with one of your scenes!
When I write I find it really hard to have noise in the background. If it is music it can be at a low volume, but if I am really into the writing I won't notice it anyway.
LOL. Awesome!! :-)
With the letter c instead of q, that word means 'when?' in Spanish, right? :o)
Every time I start a new project, I create a new playlist. If I don't feel like I have the right songs, I'll search through iTunes for songs that remind me of my MC. Have started to listen to several Eminem songs because of this.
I worked on a manuscript that led me back to No Doubt...I went back to my parents house, pulled out all my old CD's, and downloaded them into my iPhone. They now serve as good Girl Power music and help keep me going when I'm working out.
Great post :)
Nelly Furtado is way sexier than Michael Booby-Whatever. She's beautiful.
I've listened to some stuff I would never listen to, but my characters would. It's kind of difficult.
My love interest has Italian Roots too. And this song is beautiful! I've just started making playlists for my WIP so I'm trying to discover new music.
My current male MC has a lot of anger and I had to ask some friends for angry music.
Definitely helped get me into the mood to write his scenes!
P.S. I <3 Michael Buble. :)
Oh, no. Now I've got a Quando Quando earworm going in my head. What is it about old Italian popular songs? Volare does that to me too.
I haven't been able to follow all the alphabetizing blogs this month, but I'm checking Q's, because I figured they'd be fun.
Not as many "Querys" as I expected. "Quando" is definitely original!
My current MS is in an alternate historical setting. The only piece of music specifically mentioned is 'a Chopin Mazurka'. Although I did look around for the right kind of music, none of it got stuck in my head.
Matthew MacNish - I have a friend who went to HS with Nelly and another friend with parents who live right next door to her parents. She went to the same HS I did, only eight years after me (yeah, I know I'm getting old...).
My husband sings this all the time :( And now you've posted (great post, btw), it'll be stuck in my head all day long now. He and I will have a choir going :)
I love music and am often inspired by it. I remember while I was writing my last novel I listened to David Gray and Damien Rice all the time.
