Love Actually

Last night I finally bound, gagged, and cajoled my loving husband into watching one of my favorite holiday movies with me: Love Actually.  (He is NOT a Hugh Grant fan.) It’s a British comedy that follows several characters and shows love’s various facets.  Despite the hubs complaining- I know he secretly liked it too.

It got me thinking about some of my other Christmas faves:

Santa Claus the Movie- To this day I am still convinced David Huddleston is the REAL Santa.

It’s a Wonderful Life- If you don’t at least want to shed a tear at the end of this movie, you might need to worry about your eternal soul.

A Christmas Story-  I was a total Ralphie as a kid- the obsessions, the daydreaming.  This movie is so genuine and hilarious.

Family Man- This one kind of sneaks up on you over the years.  Nicholas Cage and Téa Leoni are both awesome here together.

What are your favorite must-see Christmas movies?

Love Actually is awesome. So is Elf and Christmas Story.

I loved Love Actually but for some reason never thought of it as a holiday movie ... and now, along with It's a Wonderful Life, I must watch it again!

Definitely A Christmas Story!

I watch the 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family and they normally cover all of them.

My personal favorites are Stealing Christmas AND Christmas Caper. I just think they're cheesily awesome!

I sat down to watch Love Actually with my daughter -- I'd completely forgotten about those fake sex scenes. It was a little uncomfortable....

We love Home Alone 1 & 2 but I only want to watch it this time of the year.

I haven't seen the last one.

I borrowed the first one last year after several blogs mentioned it for some mysterious reason. I was half way through the movie when I realized I'd seen it before. :P

Zuzu's petals.

"Paste it, daddy!"

God I love that movie so much, even if I turn into a weeping, blubbering mess every time I watch it.

Shit, it's making my throat a little tight right now, just thinking about it.

Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. The first time I saw this in the theater with friends we were all laughing so hard we were crying.

Of course, Christmas Story is awesome. That scene where the mother is serving her family dinner and never gets a bite in happened at our house last night. When you're the mom, it's not quite as funny.

The Great Escape! :-) Always on the BBC over Christmas!

Yay! Take care

I actually talked my husband into seeing that movie in the theater. Not sure how.

We always watch The Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve.

Jingle All The Way is my favourite. Silly but great! x

I really don't know. I was talking about this the other day and found there isn't one that is a must see.

When I was a kid it was Charlie Brown's Christmas.

The one movie I MUST wathc is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys =)

I also like Miracle on 34th street and Elf.

I love It's a Wonderful Life. I still can't sit through, A Christmas Story. *ducks* Sorry, I know everyone else loves it.

Haha, my condolences to your poor husband and I hope he was able to cleanse himself by watching a boxing match immediately after.

Being weird, I have always enjoyed the Charlie Brown Christmas. Fortunately, the kids watch it year around here anyway.

Yay for Love Actually! I LOVE this film - and even more so that it takes place in London, and I recognise and have been to so many of the places.

I LOVE Love Actually! My husband won't ever watch it though b/c he doesn't like anything that may be construed as a chick flick.

What was the movie with Sarah Jessica Parker? I liked that Christmas one too.

The Grinch is a definite favorite.

The Christmas Story always freaked me out. For some reason, when he gets his tongue stuck on the flag pole...gives me chills and freaks me out a little bit.

The Home Alone movies are silly but fun. My daughter loves them and thinks it's so funny when the bad guys get all beat up. They'd so be dead in real life!

Love Actually is one of my favourite films ever. Love it! I've lost count of how many times I've seen It's a Wonderful Life and I still cry. :)

I love Falling in Love with Meryl Streep and Robert de Niro.

Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby is one of my faves.

The Charlie Brown Christmas has a special place in my heart also.

The Family Man is a great movie all year long. The message is so wonderful, and I adore Nicolas Cage in it. He does a fantastic job. Merry Christmas!

Kinda funny, but in our house, it was my husband who cajoled me into watching Love Actually. And I think my deadpan may have ruined the movie for him. I just don't GET British humor. Or is that humour? SEE!?

Anyways, I love It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and, what I consider to be a new classic (new adult, anyone?) Elf.

It's a wonderful life and The Great Escape (well, it's always on at Christmas!).

Love Actually is my favorite holiday movie. It's a Wonderful Life runs second to it. Great picks for the season. Simply love em.

I love Love Actually! There's a new one out that looks similar, New Year's Day? Something like that. I'm going to try to drag my husband to see it over the holidays.

I don't know why, but I like my Christmas movies to be goofy. So I love A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and of course Elf.

But another favorite has a Christmastime setting, but is not a Christmas Movie, per se:

Die Hard (1988)

Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer and The Grinch are my faves. I just love that little dog and how happy he looks riding on the back of that sleigh - until the mean grinch yanks him off!

Angela Brown said...

Haven't seen Love Actually so can't say much in that regards.

I am a Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story kind of gal.

"I triple-dog-dare ya!"

Yeah...good times.

Shannon O'Donnell said...

I love Nicholas Cage, so I'll have to watch that one. My favorite is still the Burl Ives narrated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. :-)

Even though I no longer celebrate Christmas, I still enjoy the Grinch (the original) and A Christmas Story. Jingle All the Way is also really funny.

ALL great pics. I gotta see The Grinch, at least once. And er, I also love Lost Boys. Because, I can't get enough Kiefer Sutherland, during the holidays or otherwise.

Janet Johnson said...

You can't forget the Grinch! But The Santa Clause is another favorite of mine.

It's a Wonderful Life takes the cake though. Love it!

Marsha Sigman said...

I LOVE 'Love Actually'! One of my favorites.

But also The Santa Clause with Tim Allen and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid, you can't beat those guys for Christmas inspiration.lol

Like Tamara, it is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It is a Christmas tradition at my home for my family to sit down and laugh hysterically at this movie. We know the words by heart.

I always love It’s a Wonderful Life.

I don't think a Christmas movie list is complete without the Muppets Christmas Carol. I may just be a big kid, but I find it such an entertaining take on the traditional theme.

LTM said...

oh, I need to watch Love, Actually again. It's been years since I've seen that one. All your movies are on my list as well, but also The Bells of St. Mary's. That was one of the very first Christmas movies I remember watching... Love. :o) <3

I adore Love Actually...and the soundtrack is one of my favourite things ever. Also I have to watch The Grinch around this time of year, and White Christmas. There are so many great Christmas films that it would take ages to remember them all.

Amy Jarecki said...

I love How The Grinch Stole Christmas...the original one! And I love Christmas! What a fun post :-)

Jemi Fraser said...

I think my favourite is White Christmas or the original Grinch!

M.K. Nissen said...

We always watch Elf, A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation (the best!). I like your list too!

What's with men not liking Hugh Grant?

Karen M. Peterson said...

It's officially Christmas time when I watch Love Actually. And I watch It's a Wonderful life almost every Christmas Eve. I also love Elf, The Holiday, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, and...and...Die Hard.

I really like the remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" (not that I've seen the original). I thought Richard Attenborough was great in that role.

Also, I love "The Muppet Christmas Carol". I mean, the muppets, and then their unique way of telling the story. Always makes me smile :).
